the brief

one campaign, three jobs, one look

youth theatre together is a new national organisation for youth theatre in england. its first campaign had three jobs: map the sector, publish the data, and bring people together.

most youth theatres are small and run by volunteers, so none of it could feel corporate.

concept

network and zones

we explored two themes: network and zones. network became circuit lines and nodes that link every layout. zones became soft blobs of colour that hold a headline, a photo or a person.

the looping o in “together” joins the two. tanker, zilla slab and inter tight sit over six bright colours.

phase one: the call out

find every youth theatre in england

a call out to map every youth theatre in england. the identity had to be recognisable from the first post, and the map it fed became the campaign’s first proof of scale: pins from cornwall to northumberland.

phase two: the report

making the data something you want to read

the census summary report 2024 is the biggest survey of youth theatres since 2011. every chapter opens with one plain statement in big type, in its own colour: youth theatre is big. is underfunded. is not accessible enough.

inside, the numbers lead, and a side column of “youth theatre leaders told us…” keeps real voices beside every statistic.

The whole Youth Theatre Census Summary Report 2024 laid out as a single strip of spreads: a purple cover, then chapters in red, turquoise, yellow, green and orange, recommendations and case studies

the campaign

the report, cut into pieces people share

the same system was cut into fifteen social cards: a bold finding, a stat or a quote from a leader, always with one link back to the report.

phase three: the conference

bringing everyone into the room, accessibly

for the manchester conference, 18 and 19 june 2025, one identity had to work on a banner, a post, a stage screen and a lanyard.

text always sits on a solid highlight bar so it stays legible on any colour, and round badges showed who was who, from event host to listener.

delegates wrote their ideas for “in 2030…” and pegged them across the stage.

the result

a system, not a one-off

one identity carried a call out, a data report, a social campaign and a two day conference, and still felt like one organisation. it was built as a system, so the team can keep making work in the same visual language.
